In the spring of 2020 Jack Daniel’s released the sixth bottle in their Tennessee Tasters’ series, Jamaican Allspice, Straight Tennessee Whiskey Finished with Toasted Jamaican Allspice Wood.

The label reads:

Our whiskey has found a home in countries all over the globe. So it’s only natural that we search the world to discover new and rare woods to compliment its character. Tennessee Tasters’ No. 6 is an exotic experiment that finishes our Old No. 7 whiskey with Jamaican Allspice wood. The result has a nose of fruit and smoke that melts into subtle, sweet tobacco and a taste that begins with dark spice and clove and lingers to finish long and bold. - Master Taster: Melvin H.

Notes: Finished for 180 days

This week I got out on my first work trip, since probably August 2019. I started a new job last year, about a week after the world shut down for the pandemic, so work trips have been on hold for quite some time, that and the last employer stopped my travelling, so I hadn’t been on the road for work in quite some time. It was great to get out and meet some fellow employees and customers face to face.

Fortunately for me the trip was to Franklin, TN, which isn’t too far from Lynchburg, so I turned the work trip into a little fun too. Before heading down, I signed up for the Angel’s Share tour on Thursday morning. Wednesday after the work meetings were over I drove around Franklin TN a bit and did some whiskey hunting, checking out the local liquor stores to see what I could find. I ended up picking up a bottle of Wheeler’s Raid, which is a local whiskey out of Nolensville, TN I believe, on the recommendation of a coworker.

In getting ready for this post I realized this is the first time I’ve actually blogged about Blackened. I’ve had a few bottles over the past couple of years, and will document some of those later on, but for now, here’s batch 106.

As part of Eric Church’s Double Down US Tour Jack Daniels teamed up with the country artist for a limited edition single barrel bottle. The bottle appears to be a pretty standard single barrel bottle, ours was bottled on 12/19/2018, it came with a hang metal Eric Church Chief tag with JD Limited Edition on the back of the tag (see photos below).

The bottle came with/in a somewhat custom single barrel box. The front reads with the normal single barrel select branding, but has a black silhouette of the bottle with a rendering of the Eric Church / Chief tag.

The back of the box reads:

Music and friendships were always important to Mr. Jack. That’s why we are proud to offer this limited edition Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel package celebrating our longstanding relationship with Eric Church. Not only is Eric a Friend of Jack, but he shared Jack Daniel’s spirit of community. In honor of that spirit we are making a donation in support of the “Chief Cares Fund,” a non-profit created by Eric and his wife, Katherine in 2013 to impact lives around the globe and in our own neighborhoods.

You can still find the bottle online at some retailers.
