It has been over 20 years since I started using .Text back in the day to build out this website. Eventually it went from .Text to CommunityServer, and then for nearly 2 decades, it ran on DotNetNuke.

I maintained a custom fork on Engage’s Publish module for DNN that powered the thousands of blog posts here over the years. The site aggregated various blog posts I made on other sites as well.

The maintenance of the site was minimal, but monthly my DNN sites I still host cost me about $150 a month, which really isn’t necessary with how much automation and hosting options are available nowadays.

To leverage some newer technologies and get me out of my comfort zone I’ve been working on migrating my various websites to Astro a static site generator.

The combination of Astro and Netlify allows me to host this website for $20 a month, and to be honest if I wasn’t doing so many commits and builds I probably could even get by on the free version.

I am hoping to document some of the process I used to convert from DNN to Astro but will leave that to another blog post (or three).
